On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month the armistice ending WWI went into effect.  Even knowing the event was coming in a few days, generals waged war and ordered attacks where men died.

Some people are most comfortable when they have a strong figure to lean on, someone to tell them what to do and explains that they’re not responsible for the circumstances they face. That’s what attracts some to the military initially and keeps some of them for life. They’re better at following than thinking on their own.

I belong to a couple of veterans groups and their political crap pops up now and again. It’s quickly deleted by the administrators but it’s a reminder that nationalism is alive and well in this country, while patriotism is often criticized.

The Vietnam Memorial, dedicated to those who lost their lives in that misconceived adventure.  Dedicated this day in 1982.

 

The Three Soldiers, a memorial to those vets who came back from Vietnam.  Dedicated in 1984.

The Vietnam Women’s Memorial, dedicated to those women, volunteers, who went to Vietnam.  Dedicated in 1993.

The fact that the last picture is smaller than the previous 2 has nothing to do with them being women, it’s just what I was able to copy and post.
