Participant::China is digging in for the long haul. Everyone will be paying more for goods on both sides of the ocean for the foreseeable future.
Are we getting what we’re paying for? You be the judge. Our trade deficit climbed 9% just from June to July. Retaliatory tariffs are pricing American goods out of the range of consumers in our overseas markets.
Wasn’t this wrong-headed trade war supposed to decrease the trade deficit? Only in the mind of someone who hasn’t a basic understanding of economics, like our Republican president.

Keymaster::What the dumbshit in chief does not understand is that China is aggressively diversifying in Africa now – and doesn’t care as much about US market dependency.
The tariffs are going to hurt American consumers more than they hurt them.

Participant::Trump initiates tariffs against China and then winds up borrowing millions from them because of the deficit created by his tax cuts AND his tariffs?
Tired of winning indeed!

Participant::BREAKING: Target just issued a statement saying that they are 'deeply troubled' over Trump's tariffs.
They say that prices are going to rise on everything from school supplies, baby items, etc
Walmart, Kohl's, L.L. Bean, Macy's & 290+ other companies have come forward as well!

Participant::Walmart to put up their prices, are they not making enough money, perhaps the richest family in the world, and still paying “”so called slave wages””
…………..Walmart shares jumped more than 10% Thursday following the company’s earnings … The Waltons are the richest family in America. … Walton’s descendants have a combined wealth of $163.2 billion, according to Bloomberg…….thats $163 200 000 000

Participant::The Waltons and Bezos are so obscenely rich because they charge too much and pay too little. Shed no tears for that duo.
Prices will go up? Sure, but only if we continue to buy Chinese. Once the US gets back into manufacturing everybody in the US wins. We don’t need Chinese markets to thrive. We need American jobs for American citizens right here in the USA.
Here is something that you naysayers don’t take into account. The only country in the world that was, and still could be, self sufficient is the USA.

Participant::OK, so the USAs corporations could close down all of their factories in extreme low labour cost countries………and bring back the jobs to the USA……….do you really think they would do that, instead of paying “chinese workers” $200 a month……and they work 60 hrs a week…..thats about 78 cents an hour……and then these corporations have to pay American workers…….how much????….all depends if it could be a min wage job or $50000 a year….about $24 an hour……THAT WILL NEVER HAPPEN

There is no infrastructure left anymore.

Participant::These tariffs are a tax hike on consumers. We’ll be paying more for goods with no corresponding increase in value. This will increase the rate of inflation, which will raise the price of everything. That will motivate the Fed to raise interest rates to dampen the rate of inflation and that will put us in serious risk of another recession, one that we no longer have the proper tools to deal with.
It’s almost as if somebody didn’t think this through.

Participant::Trump’s tariffs are nationalism and in my opinion have little to do with any economic concern on his part. It is pure “America First” which hasn’t worked whenever it’s been promoted.
China, India and others have become suppliers because they supply goods at a lower cost than the U.S. can at this time.
The solution isn’t to start a trade war but rather to train and use labor in our borders. Our laborers have become second class citizens for the most part. Walmart is the largest employer in the U.S. with 3.2 million workers followed by McDonald’s with 1.9 million. Yes, we have workers in tech, medicine and other industries that require sophistication and a high degree of education, but those numbers pale in comparison to Walmart, et al.
I cannot envision a world where labor is evenly divided. There will always be areas and countries that will do their best to undercut the competition, but without a trained workforce the U.S. has no real defense against such competition.
After I had been in food management for awhile I decided to do something about the horrendous turnover in my employees. They were, for the most part, teenagers and untrained as to a work ethic. I started to concentrate on two areas; being very selective as to who I hired and to train them. I paid my employees who were trained and showed good work habits more than my fellow managers. Corporate complained that my cost of labor was higher than most other units but I pointed out that I was lower in all other costs that I had any control over; foods cost, supplies costs, cleaning costs and even infrastructure cost due to my employees taking care of everything. My turnover was drastically lower than almost everyone of my fellow managers.
This is a minute example of how training as well as selection can affect how businesses operate.
