One of our state questions was to change our state constitution to allow optometrists and opticians to operate in big box stores like Walmart.
Oklahoma is one of only 3 states that ban this practice and it means that those without vision insurance pay double or more than what someone would pay in another state that allows this. I know, I’ve priced glasses as well as exams in the state but fortunately I’m close enough to Kansas that I can drive up easily to Arkansas City which does have a Walmart Superstore with optometry services. Right now it’s close but the change is losing.
