Conservatives outnumber liberals 35-26 percent, according to Gallup.

Here is how the Gallup information breaks down:

73 percent of Republicans identify as conservatives – up from 70 percent in 2016.
51 percent of Democrats now identify as liberals – marking the first time a majority of Democrats have adopted the term.
46 percent of independents call themselves moderates, while 28 percent say they’re conservatives and 22 percent say they are liberals.

Yet the conservatives want Social Security and Medicare – many people don’t know what the fuck conservatism stands for. They may identify as conservatives ideologically, but operationally they vote in favor of specific liberal issues.

2018 elections proved that.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Americans’ assessment of their political ideology was unchanged in 2018 compared with the year prior when 35% on average described themselves as conservative, 35% as moderate and 26% as liberal. Although conservatives continue to outnumber liberals, the gap in conservatives’ favor has narrowed from 19 percentage points in Gallup’s 1992 baseline measurement to nine points each of the past two years.

It would seem that Trump’s rhetoric and actions have increased the number of people identifying as liberals and narrowed the gap between conservatives and liberals.  This makes conservatives the loser.

Assuming that the Gallup poll is even partly accurate, the only way to interpret the data is that conservatives are now voting Democrat. We have Trump to thank for this ideological switch.
