PARKLAND, Fla. — Scot Peterson, the school security officer branded a coward for his inaction during the massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, has been arrested for neglect of duty, Broward County Sheriff Gregory Tony announced Tuesday.

Peterson, 56, had been nationally heckled and vilified for failing to confront the former student who gunned down and killed 17 students and staff at the Parkland school on Feb. 14, 2018.

“It’s never too late for accountability and justice,” Sheriff Tony said.

Peterson has been booked into the Broward Main Jail on 11 criminal charges, including child neglect, culpable negligence and perjury. He also was fired.

“My heart is just beating because we’re over a year here and this is just now happening,” said Gena Hoyer, mother of 14-year-old Luke, who died in the shooting. “This is long overdue.”

“He needs to go to jail and he needs to serve a lifetime in prison for not going in that day and taking down the threat that led to the death of our loved ones,” said Lori Alhadeff, whose daughter, Alyssa, 14, also died that day. “It was his duty to go into that building and to engage the threat and he froze and he did nothing.”

Unlike the police officers who ran toward the murderer in the recent Virginia Beach shooting, and risked their lives and engaged the shooter in an extensive gun battle,

Peterson stood by and did nothing, in the Florida shooting.

Earlier on Tuesday, I reported that Scot Peterson, the resource officer who stood by while 17 people were killed during the fateful shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas Highschool in February of last year has been arrested on multiple charges.

A surviving student from the shooting and now vocal political activist Kyle Kashuv has spoken out via a video on Twitter celebrating his arrest.

“The school resource officer, who cowered behind a wall and let my peers die, has finally been held accountable,” said Kashuv. “Scot Peterson was arrested.”

“For those who don’t know, this man literally stood outside a building and knew there was a shooter, knew he saw the rifle bag, he heard the shots. He was armed and he didn’t act,” Kashuv continued. “It was his job to go into the building and save my peers. Because of him, 17 of my peers were murdered,” Kashuv said.

“It was his job. It was his responsibility, and he failed us all,” Kashuv said.

I don’t think he froze – the guy was set to retire in about a week, and didn’t want to risk losing his retirement pension.  Like a democrat, he looked out for himself.

Could have been prevented if the democrat sheriff had been pro-active against the shooter based on numerous complaints.  But gotta give them minorities a special pass….the democrat way….
