US gives initial OK to predator-killing sodium cyanide

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has taken an initial step to reauthorize a predator-killing poison that injured a boy in Idaho and killed his dog.

The federal agency on Tuesday announced an interim decision involving sodium cyanide that’s used in M-44s, devices embedded in the ground that look like lawn sprinklers but spray cyanide when triggered by animals attracted by bait.

Environmental groups, which have filed lawsuits aimed at banning the devices, blasted the move toward reauthorizing the devices.

“Cyanide traps can’t be used safely by anyone, anywhere,” said Collette Adkins of the Center for Biological Diversity. “While the EPA added some restrictions, these deadly devices have caused too much harm to remain in use.”

The EPA determined that “based on the low frequency of sodium cyanide incidents reported … there does not appear to be a concern at this time.”

Poisoning the land and the water isn’t much of a concern to this administration.

Once more corporate profits rule over a safe environment.

While they are in a rodent killing mode the Farallon Islands off San Francisco are infested by rats who are killing native birds and other creatures. Poison is the preferred solution but the  compassionate environmentalists are having a shit fit.

The islands boast one of the world’s largest breeding colonies for seabirds, including the rare ashy storm-petrel, and their beaches are covered with lolling sea lions and seals. The waters surrounding the islands teem with 18 species of whales and dolphins.

The islands also host tens of thousands of house mice — an invasive species that is wreaking havoc on the native ecosystem, according to biologists.

EPA dropped salmon protection after Trump met with Alaska governor

(CNN)The Environmental Protection Agency told staff scientists that it was no longer opposing a controversial Alaska mining project that could devastate one of the world’s most valuable wild salmon fisheries just one day after President Trump met with Alaska’s governor, CNN has learned.
The EPA publicly announced the reversal July 30, but EPA staff sources tell CNN that they were informed of the decision a month earlier, during a hastily arranged video conference after Trump’s meeting with Gov. Mike Dunleavy. The governor, a supporter of the project, emerged from that meeting saying the president assured him that he’s “doing everything he can to work with us on our mining concerns.”
The news came as a “total shock” to some top EPA scientists who were planning to oppose the project on environmental grounds, according to sources. Those sources asked to remain anonymous for fear of retribution.
The copper-and-gold mine planned near Bristol Bay, Alaska, known as Pebble Mine, was blocked by the Obama administration’s EPA after scientists found that the mine would cause “complete loss of” the bay’s fish habitat.

EPA insiders tell CNN that the timing of the agency’s internal announcement suggests Trump was personally involved in the decision.
Dunleavy met with Trump aboard Air Force One on June 26, as the President’s plane was on the tarmac in Alaska. The President had stopped there on his way to the G20 summit in Japan.

Trump and his cronies have no regard for this nation’s environment nor for life, human or animal.
