Do you get tropical hurricanes in Sweden with wind speeds of over 200km/hr?

Tropical hurricanes do not occur so far north as Sweden, perhaps that is why they are called TROPICAL…….but, we did get a very nasty storm in Jan 2005, which blew down a few million trees, about 170 million as it cross the middle of Sweden, it lasted for about 6 hrs, people in the cities and large town were OK, they didnt loose any power. but small town and outlying areas were with out power for as long as 5 weeks, I was without for 3 weeks……..and winters in Sweden can be cold, and it was 3 days after the storm, -18C…….. and it was then that the govn told the electric companies that all overhead power lines over between 8 and 12 Kvs, were to be buried………and they were, it took 5 years, and now there is not one single overhead power line to be seen, in the smaller towns and in outlying areas………and now we never ever ever ever have power breaks……I have seen pictures from right across the USA, power lines hanging up there between poles, everywhere……………..

Not being a physics major or an electrical engineer, what do you think would be the result of burying a massive electrical distributing network underground that would be subject to great and extended flooding?  I’m not sure water and electricity would mix well together.

Cables themselves are no problem underground, they are done right around the world, any connection boxes etc etc would be above ground as they are here……and I assume that major cities in the USA all have underground cabling, one very seldom sees posts with cables hanging in the major cities

Laying electrical cable in areas with a shallow water table if problematic at best.  Yes, connections are above ground but laying cable in water is not the best of ideas.  You also have a problem with sink holes in those southern east coast areas.

You forgot to mention solar flares and tidal waves and avalanches, and then the birds wont have anywhere to sit and look, they will have to hop around at ground level, and be easy prey for cats and kids with stones
