ParticipantYears ago coworkers used these speakers so they could listen to the radio at work. I never tried them, but I’m curious if they’d be suitable for watching TV (with Bluetooth, I assume). I’m using optical headphones right now but I’m getting tired of them.
Anyone here have experience with these? Opinions?

KeymasterTry these. These are awesome. I am not an audiophile but these are the best next to Bose.

ParticipantThanks.
1) How audible is it to others in the room not wearing the speaker (with the TV sound muted).
2) What does the Bluetooth adapter plug into at the TV, an HDMI jack?

I havent tried it with a TV but with Mac and iphone. It is a wearable speaker so the best surround sound effect comes with you wearing it. The sound to others not wearing it is low volume. And you also have the option to wear the retractible earbuds.
Didn’t understand your second question. If your TV is bluetooth enabled, just pair it with the headphone. No adapter needed.

ParticipantFor a Smart TV, it isn’t very smart it doesn’t have Bluetooth capability built in. It also doesn’t have a 3.5 mm jack. (Panasonic Viera TV.)
All I can figure out to do is
1) connect an optical SPDIF/Coaxial to RCA L/R 3.5mm Jack converter to generate an analog signal from my TV’s optical ouput, then attach a Bluetooth transmitter to that new 3.5 mm jack, or
2) attach a Bluetooth transmitter to the optical out jack on the TV, or
3) connect a Bluetooth transmitter to the L/R (red and white) RCA jacks on the TV with the appropriate cabling depending on the input requirements of the Bluetooth converter.
In any case, the Bluetooth device must have a special capability, aptX, it seems.

ParticipantI’ve had the TV for several years and am very disappointed with it. In past searches to figure out problems I was having people have reported very poor customer support. Maybe I’ll stop by BestBuy and ask someone. Some of the items I’m considering as a fix are sold there.

I don’t think Bluetooth would interface with either of the three connection types.

That’s one of the reasons I’m bringing this up. The more devices I add in the signal path, the more opportunity for incompatibility to present. I just don’t like the idea of having to buy a new TV just because I want to be rid of the headphones and cord. The TV we have serves its basic function; it just doesn’t seem to be very “expandable”.
Good thing I don’t watch much TV.

Depending on its age the TV may not support what you want to do.
I have a large screen Samsung that is about 13 years old. Not a smart TV at all but it gives me a good picture. The most negative thing I can say about it is that where the closed captions show up, blocks of slightly darker tint have been burned in. This is a minuscule complaint, I very seldom notice it. I have some difficulty distinguishing words at times and use closed captions a lot.
I am a Consumer Reports member and Samsung is one of the consistently high rated TVs.
I’ve thought about getting a smart TV but right now it isn’t high on my wish list.
